For some strange reason (after reading everyone’s posts about today’s prompt word Crisp) I am craving Apple Crisp today!
When I think of apple crisp, I always immediately think of an autumn family trip we took to California. My daughter was almost 2 months old so she was super tiny yet. It was her first plane ride and overall, just a really special trip!
My husband spent a few years growing up in California and had fond memories of a place called Apple Hill. We drove and drove until we found it and none of us were disappointed when we got there. It was incredible! And, let me tell you-they served us the best apple crisp ever!
So, going with the theme of apple crisp…
I thought I would share with you my favorite Apple Crisp recipe!
- 6 apples – peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup cold butter
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Toss apples with white sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a medium bowl to coat
- Pour into a 9-inch square baking dish
- Mix brown sugar, oats, flour, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a separate bowl
- Use a pastry cutter or 2 forks to mash cold butter into the oats mixture until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
- Spread over the apples to the edges of the the baking dish
- Pat the topping gently until even
- Bake in preheated oven until golden brown and sides are bubbling, about 40 minutes.
Tip:
Aluminum foil helps keep food moist, ensures it cooks evenly, keeps leftovers fresh, and makes clean-up easy.

Lovely post, I can imagine something like this would be great with fresh cream, funny enough as I was reading your post about the “Apple Hill”, I had Travis Greene on listening to his song “The Hill” you can check it out here;

Now I’m craving it too–I’ve been serving apple pie filling on waffles (toaster) when it’s too warm to bake.
