Make the Most of Summer Break

I'm part of Post A Day 2016

Summer Break

Summer break has recently just begun for my kids. Some moms dread summer break. But, for me, I look forward to it just as much as the kids do-maybe even more! I love to have the extra time with them (and I really love sleeping in-even if they don’t! ha)

As I sat down to write today, my calendar tells me it’s already June 13th. I know it’s just begun, but I feel like Summer is tapering down already!

It’s easy to get used to the “freedom” that comes with Summer Break. But, I want to stay focused on what my goal for the summer was: to spend quality time with my kids.

Sadly, I feel like I’ve lost site of this. I‘ve used this free time so far to catch up around the house and do projects I have been putting off. Things on MY AGENDA-not the kids’.

Don’t get me wrong, we’ve done fun “summer” things: the beach, hiking, geocaching etc. But, I want to be more involved with this time where I have their attention.

We purposely don’t do sports or camps or anything too scheduled during the summer. We don’t want the distractions like we have all school year. We want the freedom to do as we choose and to just embrace being together.

So, today, I’m going to cut it short and go embrace this time with my kiddos.

I hope this has been  good reminder to you to stay focused this summer and prioritize time with your family while they don’t have the distractions of homework etc.

Make today count!

With Aloha,

Lacy

  1. I salute you for your devotion to spending time with your kids. It’s a hot-button topic for me because I felt so neglected by parents that were too busy to spend much time with me when I was growing up. It’s probably why there is so much passion and sermonizing in my new post, “Nakomai’s Immortality: Culturally Induced Child Sacrifice.” (http://jamesclarkthenextiteration.wordpress.com/2017/06/12/nakomais-immortality/) Until I read your post, I didn’t realize how timely it was for me to be trying to inspire parents to find a way to spend more time with their children.

Thanks for another inspiring post. Well done!

  3. Okay! You were right! We are like blogging Twinsies! LOL You touched on something- I too am not a fan of summer activities and sports! They are so busy during the school year that I want to chill out during the summer- the odd time we sign them up for soccer or swimming but it just depends what our summer plans are! They grow up so fast- time with them is precious and fleeting. Giving a follow! Can’t wait to chat more!
