So, we set out yesterday morning to hike the Koko Crater Botanical Garden here on Oahu, HI. (I just posted about our visit if you want to read more about what we saw: Our Hike Through the Koko Crater Botanical Garden.
I had just looked up what the photo challenge was for the week and saw “Unusual.” I told the kids, “I don’t know if we will see anything that qualifies as “unusual” in a botanical garden, but let’s look together for something!
Immediately, we were surrounded by “unusual!” In fact, my son even said, “Wow! That is sure unusual!” I stopped him and said, “what did you say?” He replies, “Look at that! It’s so-Oh yeah! Unusual! That’s what we were looking for! I found it for you to blog about mommy!” The look on his face when he realized why I interrupted his sentence was priceless. He was so proud!
So, today’s post is for my little “Dinosaur.”
We took a stroll through the Plumeria Grove and found all these crazy shaped tree trunks and branches!
I couldn’t settle on just one crazy tree to share about because they just got cooler and cooler. So, here are a few of the most “unusual” ones we saw!
See what we mean by UNUSUAL!?!?
If you enjoyed this, you would really enjoy the post I mentioned earlier: Our Hike Through the Koko Crater Botanical Garden
You will see even more unusual finds we saw including some of the craziest cactus I’ve seen!
Thanks for stopping by! Please like, comment and share!
With Aloha,

Awesome! Yes there is sooooo much to explore here! Don’t be afraid to step away from the “tourist” excursions. There is so much to see hidden in the mountains and along the less-popular beaches! Have a great time! Aloha!

Thanks! I intend to visit lava and do lots of hiking and paddle boarding! Any recommendations on certain food I need to try?

Depends on which island/islands you are visiting. I live on Oahu. The lava is flowing on the Big Island right now, so check that out for sure if you go there!
As for Oahu: I have a tab on my page just devoted to hiking. I’ve done A LOT of the hikes here and I’m slowly (week by week on Thursday’s) adding each one to my blog!
The foods you MUST try are: Loco Moco, Malasadas from Leonards Bakery, Shave Ice and if you enjoy a nice cocktail: Lava Flow! mmmm… Also, if you find a food truck-stop and try them out. The ones on the North Shore by Sharks Cove (great snorkel spot) are so good!
Jurassic World is being filmed here right now, so try to catch a tour at Kualoa Ranch and you may be able to see some of the set! We are going Sunday (I’m sure I’ll blog about it)
My favorite “not listed in travel brochures” tour is to the Macadamia Nut Farm…super cheap and hands down, my favorite tour on the island. I go EVERY TIME I have company visit. The tour guides are hilarious!
Enjoy your trip!!!
