Nakoa Water Hole

Trekking Thursday

I'm part of Post A Day 2016

Some days you just need a fun new place to swim! A place that’s secluded, quiet and fun!

We found just the spot last week!

We began our adventure at the Ahupuaʻa ʻO Kahana State Park. We were able to park our car at a designated hiking parking area for the Nakoa Trail. This trail is actually quite long as it has a few different loops you can do. So, we just ventured along to the swimming hole instead. I hope to come back some time and explore more though!

You begin on a paved road. Keep your kiddos close by as this is a residential area and there WILL be a little bit of traffic. We had a garbage truck racing by when we were there-yikes! Eventually, the houses will end and you will enter the woods.

You will simply follow the road until you see a hunting gate area which looks like this:

You won’t enter the hunting area but instead, keep on the same path you were on. You will also see a little sign and a trail saying Nakoa Trail. This is NOT where we went to get to the swimming hole. We just kept going straight.

As you will see, the pavement will end and you will be walking on a trail instead. This part gets really fun.

When you get to where you think the trail dead ends, you are almost there. Take a right through some tall greenery to get to the swimming hole.

We had the place to ourselves and it was so pretty.

The swinging rope immediately caught the attention of the boys and they headed over there immediately! It wasn’t very deep so I wouldn’t recommend actually swinging INTO the water. But, they had a blast swinging around on it!

There was a good current to the water. The kids enjoyed sliding down the little waterfall and riding the current to the shore. They did that over and over! I think next time, I’ll give it a try myself!

As always, we enjoyed a little snack and then headed back.

It was a nice, refreshing little hidden gem!

Happy Hiking!
