Vanilla French Toast

Vanilla French Toast


  • 4 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 c half-and-half or milk
  • 2tbs sugar
  • 2tbs vanilla
  • 1tbs cinnamon
  • 1/4tsp nutmeg
  • 8 slices dry white or whole wheat bread
  • 2tbs butter or vegetable oil

*butter, maples syrup, banana slices ground cinnamon for toppings


  • beat together: eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg
  • dip bread slices into egg mixture coating both sides
  • preheat oven to 200 degrees F
  • Place a plate or serving platter in the oven
  • on a 12″ skillet or a griddle, melt 1tbs of the butter over medium heat and spread over the cooking surface
  • add half of the bread slices and cook for 4-6 minutes or until golden, turning once
  • transfer slices to the oven to keep warm
  • repeat with remaining bread and butter

*I like to serve this with additional butter, maple syrup (or agave nectar) and banana slices. Sprinkle with cinnamon

  1. We uses to have this, or at least a similar version of it, as a special treat when I was growing up. Thanks for bringing back some sweet (pun intended) memories!
