I Ate the Entire 7-Course Meal…and I Don’t Feel Guilty!

Wellness Wednesday

I'm part of Post A Day 2016

Good morning, friends!

Confession time!

If you noticed I haven’t written in a few days, it’s because we just spent the last several days on a little “staycation” here on Oahu, HI. To say I indulged in a little bit of food would be an understatement. But, come on…outdoor hibachi grill, 7 Course Dinner Cruise, Disney Aulani Resort buffets…do I even need to explain myself? ha ha

The saying “workout to pig out” totally applies to my weekend!

I think it’s important to not deprive yourselves of the so-called “cheat” days. I actually hate calling it that, because I feel like it’s not cheating if you aren’t “dieting” but rather just living a healthy life.

If you live your life in a way that is active and you typically eat a well-balanced diet, indulging in some special foods every now and then isn’t going to impact you too much.

DISCLAIMER: I DID gain 3 pounds over the 3 days. But, I’m not letting that discourage me. I will get back on the bike for spin class and I have already resumed eating healthy.

I will look back at the weekend as a great time spent with my family where I was allowed to enjoy myself without any feelings of guilt.

And, yet, I think it’s important to point out that some temptations may just be too strong.

I used to drink 1 (or 2) Dr Pepper’s a day. I decided to give up pop as a way of living healthier. It’s been about 5 months since I’ve had any pop. It’s been hard. It’s the one thing that I KNOW, if I were to let myself indulge in it on a weekend vacation, I would not be able to give it back up very easily. So, I knew better than to add Dr Pepper into my weekend indulgence.

You need to know what your triggers are. Maybe it’s a Snickers Bar or a Pumpkin Spice Latte that you KNOW you wouldn’t be able to enjoy just once. But, rather, would want more the next day…and the next. Those are the treats you need to avoid even on your “pig out” moments because it would have a long-term effect on you. It’s only a “treat” or an “indulgence” if you don’t have it very often.

Not everyone may agree with me and I’m not a health expert or doctor. But, I sincerely feel that having occasional weekends where I can just do as I please and not worry about something having too much sugar or too many calories, are totally ok! They don’t happen very often-like a couple of times a year.

And, on those days, I am going to enjoy it-GUILT FREE!

Those pancakes were the bomb.com by the way!  haha

  1. Yum! I was hungry before I read this post and now I’m really hungry! 😂 You are so right about not feeling guilt for one weekend when you live a primarily healthy lifestyle. Glad you had a nice trip!
