DIY: Lego Mini Figure Display

Make It Monday!

I'm part of Post A Day 2016
Volume

Last week, I posted a DIY project of mine where I made my son a Lego table out of an old coffee table I picked up along the side of the road. If you would like to see it, or learn how I made it, here is a link to that project: Made For a Master Builder: Lego Table Transformation

To keep with the Lego theme, I wanted to share with you my solution for that large volume of those special little Lego mini-figures.

My son loves to mix and match his mini figures to create his own people. He can be quite creative at times! Here is a “Ghostbuster” that he made today:

Anyway, I wanted a way to display some of his favorite mini figures. I roamed the isles of Target with JUST this project in mind hoping to find SOMETHING that I could turn into a shelf for this. I didn’t want to spend a lot on it and I wanted it to be something fun.

Eventually, I ended up in the kitchen storage area and saw the silverware organizers. I thought they were spaced out just perfectly to hold some mini figures. The only problem, was that they were plastic and I wouldn’t be able to paint it very easily to match his bedroom.

What do I do when I can’t find what I need at Target? I head to the thrift store. And, guess what!?!?! I found the perfect silverware organizer and it was wooden so I could paint it!

When I got home, I gathered up some left over paint, glue, exacto knife and a Lego plate.

QUICK DIY Instructions:

Step One: Paint the silverware tray

Step Two: Measure the bases where the Lego plates will be

Step Three: Use the exacto knife or scissors to cut the Lego plates and then glue them to each base

Step Four: Let the glue dry

Here is the finished project!

I am so happy with how this turned out!

I ran out of the little black display plates I placed under each mini figure. I’m waiting for them to come in the mail. You can order them on Amazon. But, this would totally work without them!14192541_972077588428_655427474308140450_n-2

I really hope you enjoyed this quick tutorial!

If so, please like, comment and share! I’m also on Pinterest so you can always pin this for later!

  1. This is brilliant! Pity my kids are too old now! Although at 19, one of my twins still has the Hogwarts castle and some star wars ones on display!
I picked up a lego table on eBay -we loved lego! (Except when you step on it in bare feet) 😃🦉
