A Time to Whisper and a Time to Yell

Whisper.

Take a moment and whisper something…anything!

Done?

Have you ever stopped and thought about whispers? When do we whisper? What does it feel like to whisper?

Now yell something…

Anything!

Done? How did THAT feel in comparison?

There are times to whisper and there are times to yell.

They both hold different meanings.

When we are cheering or celebrating, we tend to be loud. As if we are so excited, we can’t contain it. Imagine a sporting event where your team scores the winning shot. You may even leap from your chair in excitement!

But when we whisper, it takes on a completely different feeling. We reserve whispering for quiet, intimate moments. We may lean in and whisper “I love you.”

Whispering opens our senses in a way yelling can’t.

I think this is why God speaks to us in a whisper sometimes. And, sometimes, those are the most valuable words…the ones we lean in to hear.

When we are overwhelmed, listen for His voice in a whisper.

When we are anxious, listen for His voice in a whisper.

When we are lonely, listen for His voice in a whisper.

Why a whisper? Because He is always THAT close. Present in every moment.

God wants us to slow down enough to where we can hear His soft voice. When we do this, we are able to listen intentionally with an open heart. It creates a space for God’s quiet voice to be received. It is then, that he will reveal His will for us.

In the stillness, God speaks-not in a shout, but in a whisper.

With the start of the New Year, I’ve been looking back as much as I’ve been looking forward. I’ve been evaluating what went right last year and what I wish I would’ve done differently.

One of those things, is slowing down, spending time in the word and allowing myself to hear His whisper. This past year felt rushed and full. In that busyness, I didn’t always make listening a priority. This year, I’m focusing on slowing down, getting organized, leaning in, and truly listening for the whisper. I don’t want to miss anything He has prepared for me.

In a world that moves fast and speaks loudly, slowing down and becoming still allows me to hear God more clearly. It’s in the quiet moments-when the distractions of kids, work, the dog all fade-that I can hear God most clearly and receive His guidance, peace and blessings.

Choosing stillness. Listening for the whisper. Trusting what’s ahead.

With Love and Aloha,

Lacy
