The best thing about living in a new construction neighborhood was the abundance of left over construction materials! “Dumpster diving” quickly became a favorite hobby of mine! And, if I was lucky, sometimes the construction crews would even drop stuff by my house for me!
I picked up these pallets & extra wood pieces one day with the vision of making them into a play area for the kids.
It was a quick and easy project!
I just screwed the pallets together, added a few wood pieces to the top for a roof and then painted it! I just bought sample paint from Lowe’s in pink and blue. I used a black spray paint on the roof.
We decided we wanted to use this new structure as a source of shade for the sandbox.
We didn’t want any “spilled” sand to get lost in the grass. So, we bought some cement stepping stones and made a flooring to put underneath.
We had to level the ground a little bit first which was the hardest part of the project.
I eventually added a few little planter boxes on the side (screwed them on easily) and planted some matching flowers.
This was the perfect little sandbox area for the kids and was cheap and easy to make!
I hope this inspires you to try this for yourself! I’d love to hear from you if you try it!
