Confession: I was never really into sports!
I didn’t grow up watching games, memorizing stats or having any interest in Fantasy Football leagues. I kinda felt like a failure because so many people ARE into sports and it just doesn’t interest me. In fact, if you would’ve told me years ago that I would be spending so much time watching sports now in my 40’s I would’ve not believed you.
But then I became a sports mom.

My calendar revolves around sports.
There are nights when dinner is an after thought.
Days when we are doing laundry just because we need a clean uniform.
“Vacations” are planned around tournaments and typically include a dozen other teenagers and their families.
I have constant butt and back pain from sitting for hours in bleachers-I think I’ve sat in almost every gym, stadium or softball field here in Omaha.
And yet…I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Because being a sports mom also means I have a front row seat to seeing my kids work hard at something they love.
And, they don’t just show up. They work hard…darn hard!
When I look at them, I see determination on their face. I see the way they support their teammates in the good and bad moments. I see the way they push themselves. I see the way they listen and respect their coaches. I see their commitment to not only the game but to their teammates. I see their shoulders lifting a little higher each season as their confidence grows.
Through each game they play, they are learning something.
And, guess what? I’m learning too. I’ve learned that sports aren’t just about a number on the scoreboard or the stats that are recorded. Each win or loss is an opportunity for them to be taught resilience, teamwork, discipline and how to handle things when they don’t necessarily go their way.

So yes, confession: I may not LOVE SPORTS, and it CAN be chaotic. But, I will gladly sit in those bleachers, cheer at the wrong moments because I don’t know what’s going on and arrange my schedule to be there. Because it has become one of my favorite things!
Because these seasons are teaching them lessons that they will carry for the rest of their lives.
And, I am SO GRATEFUL to get to watch it happen.
With Love and Aloha,
Lacy

I so get that! Isn’t it great when we can enjoy what our kids do, it’s almost like a second chance at peeking into something that we weren’t personally interested in. And finding that their pleasure gives us pleasure. Nothing is really a failure is it. It’s all about learning!
I like that perspective! Thank you, Miriam!
A lot of sport wouldn’t happen with out the mums and dads I couldn’t find the ad I wanted to show you but this’ll do
Wow! Way to make me cry! That is spot on! I also had to laugh when the dad had to google what the term meant. I’ve done that SEVERAL TIMES! haha. Thank you for taking the time to share. It means a lot.
You’re welcome Lacy 😀
